History:
Green & Growing Landscapes Inc. is a small family owned and operated business. We have been "officially" in business since 1999, but have been in the "field" in Santa Cruz County for the last thirteen years. What started as a small dream sparked with enormous passion and turned into a reality beyond our wildest dreams.
In 1990 Gregory Miller moved from the Chicago suburbs to Santa Cruz only after former band-mates poked and prodded Gregory to pack up his drum set and move West. It was the best move he could have made. One of Greg's roommates owned a Landscape business. Naturally Greg was hired and stayed doing small installs, clean-ups but mostly Maintenance. Toward the end of his time w/ this company Gregory was a maintenance foreman, running a crew 5 days a week all over Santa Cruz County. But slowly Gregory's interest were being drawn to the true art in Landscaping. So Gregory gave notice and took a job with Prime Landscapes as a Install apprentice. The apprentice title did not last long and soon Gregory was running crews again only this time doing installs and not maintenance. Prime Landscapes Inc. is owned and operated by John David an extremely talented and passionate individual. When Gregory was interviewed he noticed that the wall was covered with various awards/plaques etc.. Gregory had found what he was looking for, a company that was Full service ;from maintenance to design to installation they did it all. During this period Gregory learned as mush as possible; how to read blueprints, how to use a transit and a plethora of other aspects regarding to landscaping. Unfortunately the cost of living forced Gregory to start considering working for himself, already having a few maintenance accounts on the side, but did not feel like a full leap into the unknown was a wise move, especially considering Marriage was on the horizon. It was at this time that Gregory saw an ad for an Irrigation technician for Coastal Evergreen Landscapes based in Scott's Valley. Having installed a soccer field while working for Prime it seemed as though he was more than qualified. He applied was hired and thus began a new phase in Gregory's Landscape education. It was with Coastal were Gregory worked completely on his own, did his billing for the company, purchases, while troubleshooting and repairing irrigation all over the Santa Cruz County. He worked 3-4 days a week repairing irrigation for Coastal the 2-3 days for himself slowly building the foundation for what would become Green and Growing Landscapes Inc.
